The Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (R & D), Hyderabad is an esteemed office of Defence Accounts Department under Ministry of Defence (Finance) entrusted with the responsibility of Audit, Accounting and Payment activities, of DRDO Labs/Establishments situated in and around Hyderabad,Secunderabad, Vizag ,Nagapur , Jagdalpur , Balasore and Chandipur.

Formed as Joint Controller of Defence Accounts (R & D) in the year 1985 as a sub office under Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (R & D), New Delhi, and elevated as Controller of Defence Accounts (R & D) w.e.f 01/07/1998, this office is performing certain specialized functions of arrangement of cash assignments in favour of the labs to meet emergent needs, monitoring a large variety of projects covering a wide gamut of disciplines in science and technology,internal audit of financial accounts of these projects and over and above all accounting of Resource Generation Projects.

The Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (R & D), Hyderabad is also responsible for Local audit of store and cash accounts and project accounts of all Projects of DRDO Labs/Establishments falling under its audit jurisdiction and plays a crucial role of rendering financial advice to all DRDO Labs/Establishments overseeing their procurement decisions through TPC’s. The PrincipalController of Defence Accounts (R & D) watches the progress of expenditure against sanctions and budgetary allotments of all DRDO Projects and analyzes the incidence of time and cost overruns and their reasons.
